Calculation scope & assumptions
Check the edition, model boundaries and evidence behind each result.
Supported editions
CableMetric can calculate with the digitised parts of AS/NZS 3008.1.1:2017 and AS/NZS 3008.1.1:2025 used by its calculation model. The selected edition controls current-carrying capacity, supported correction factors, resistance, reactance and short-circuit constants.
Edition coverage does not imply implementation of every table or design requirement in the standard. Each result and printable report records the edition actually used.
Australia and New Zealand
Australian conditions use the Australian datasets. The New Zealand option adjusts ambient defaults over those Australian datasets. It is not a complete AS/NZS 3008.1.2 implementation.
Calculator scope
Cable sizing: current rating, voltage drop, earth-core sizing, the supported derating factors, and optional conduit, short-circuit and user-supplied loop-impedance checks.
Voltage drop: voltage drop, minimum size and maximum distance using the selected edition's impedance data. Minimum-size mode sizes for voltage drop only; it does not prove current-carrying adequacy.
Voltage rise: two to five series cable segments sharing one inverter output current. When suitable high-export-voltage prevention is declared, a segment identified as consumer mains can be excluded from the rise limit while remaining visible in the calculation record.
Cable schedules: browser-local project and circuit records with JSON backup, CSV export and A4 landscape printing. Local records stay on this device unless the user exports them.
Deliberate limits
- Two-phase calculation remains unavailable until the applicable phase-angle interpretation is sourced and tested.
- Calculators that promise voltage drop do not offer 0.5 mm² or 0.75 mm² because matching impedance data has not been sourced.
- Protective-device curves and automatic coordination are not included. Fault current, fault duration and maximum permissible loop impedance are user-supplied engineering inputs.
- Parallel-cable and grouping options cover only the arrangements described at the relevant input.
Engineering review
CableMetric is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Standards Australia or Standards New Zealand. It has not yet been independently verified by a licensed electrical engineer. Confirm results against the published standards, project requirements and manufacturer data before using them for an installation.
